PS to GC Converter

Post by Forgotten Prophet »

Does any one know how this works?
http://xinga.com/shop/show.php?product=GC2016

It doesn't appear to have any place for a chip to convert the signals is it just changing the pinout? From reading Gamelvr's thread about his GCp I wouldn't think the L and R buttons would work. Does this mean a PS2 controller could be wired to the gamecube controller board directly?

Thanks in advance.

hmmm....it very well could be just chaning the pinout, although there's probably a chip where you plug your PS/PS2 controller into.....so if there's a chip, then no you can't wire a PS/PS2 controller directly, although with the converter you could....if there isn't a chip or any components then yes, you can wire a PS/PS2 controller directly to the GC :)...
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I think I'll order it and see, if it is a chip it shouldn't be too dificult incorporate the chip into a GCp.. But what of the L and R buttons, don't they need to be pressure sensitive?

Yeah, there would be a chip in the box that you plug the ps2 controller into. And you dont need pressure sensitivity, it just helps.

actually, quite a few games ONLY use the pressure sensitive part of the L/R buttons.....games like Metroid Prime 1/2, Zelda WW for the R button, I think RE4, and certainly more games.....so if you do decide to use a PS1/PS2 controller for your GCp, make sure you can still plug in a first player controller to play those games ;).....

i have ordered one of these for my GCP, i figured i had a heap of older PS1 dual shocks around and it seems to be easier to mount the ps controller internals ( i opened the GC controller and it looks like a headache.

Plus the PS controller would suit my GCP case perfectly :)

If it has no chip inside it i will post the pinouts :o)

Actually I wanted to add a switch to allow that so it could still act as a console. How would I do that? Connect the port and PS2 controller and switch which one gets power?
