Well, this my first DIY project, so go easy on me. It took me about an hour to make. I made it out of some kind of mint container that I found laying around. And Duct tape. Lots and LOTS of Duct tape! Here are some pics!

The reason it is hanging like that is because i didn't secure the sync cable with hot glue. I don't know if this will be permanent or not, and that is my only sync cable.

Thats what I was thinking, I think more (read: actually having) support would probably be a good idea. Maybe a backplate behind the Zune, so you can push the buttons without it falling off.
Pretty neat idea though, just using the regular cable.

Just like a piece of wood or something? Of course, I'll have to cover it in Duct tape. That should be pretty easy to do. Thanks for all of the feedback!
Pssssh my DIY iPod stand pwns your dock I used a sheet of plastic to make a mini arcade cabinet so the iPod stands on end with enough support so I could push the buttons and stuff and plug in speakers to the top. I also had a dock similar to your but made of clay and the usb cable so I could sync it up.

Uhh.......this is cooler . Seriously though, I just wanted to try making something.
Kurt_ wrote:What does this Altoids/Duct Tape dock of yours offer?
Duct tape + Altoids tin =SUPER AWESOME!!!! Like I said before, I just wanted to try it. I'm taking baby steps so I'm ready if I try to make a portable. If I had my way, I'd be hacking up my Gamecube right now. But if I fry it, I'm sorry, when I fry it, I don't have the money to buy another one.

Hey, at least you're honest with yourself! Seriously though, systems only get fried when people get careless. If you're meticulous, take notes, label stuff thoroughly, and always double check before connecting power then you will survive and have a much lower budget.

I think it would be worthwhile remaking this now, those bits at the back look bad.
How about cutting two pieces the below shape from wood (whatever thickness you have), to go on the side of a small block of heavy wood (eg MDF), then connect the sides together with thin wood/ mounting board? You will have plenty of room to house the wire and connector for the Zune.
With this design you would have something looking nicer, stronger and sturdier. It would be easy to make, and you could finish it however you want: paint it, use paper to cover it, etc.
