OK, I am going to be building a SNESp with an FC Twin, and I have a few questions about power. I have a 7.4V 5400 mAH LiPoly battery that I am going to be using and I'm wondering how long approximately it will power the FC Twin and the PSOne screen for.
I also have a question about safe charging of LiPoly batteries. I have a charger that I'm using that is small enough to build right into the portable. It is described as being a "safe charger" and that it won't "overcharge" the batteries. Is this sufficient? Or should I buy a separate protection circuit for it? And if so, which should I get?

Yeah, I had a protection circuit and a smart charger, the smart charger always kicked in before the protection circuit. But then there's the worries of shorts, undercharging, etc. For the extra $5 or so, get a proper protection circuit too.
As for how long it will power the portable: Forever.
Seriously.
You saw mine. Separate audio amp and 6 LED mod for the screen, it ran for 6 hours before I stopped testing.

Hey, sup?
Alright, I'm gonna go with a protection circuit from Battery Space. I'm pretty sure I've got the right one. Do you guys think it would be a nifty feature to add a "gas guage"? It's an extra $3.95...

That's exactly what my reservations were for. Anyways, I decided NOT to put one in because after searching around on google, I found another place that sells the exact same one.Life of Brian wrote:That would be cool, but think to yourself it you actually have a convenient/practical spot to put it.khaag wrote:Do you guys think it would be a nifty feature to add a "gas guage"? BatterySpace would have charged my $19.67 to ship it to Canada. I found this other place (http://all-battery.com) and did a quick google search for coupon codes and found one that gave me Free shipping!
They had a minumum order of $10 though... so I ordered 3. Still, I save $10. Woot Woot!!

As a rough estimation, 700mAh for the PSOne screen plus 850 (roughly) for the FC Twin is 1550. 5400 divided by 1550 is about 3 hours and 30 minutes. If you did the LED mod, it would yield about 4 3/4 hours. Keep in mind that my estimation on the Twin's power draw is probably off completely, that's just a straight listing from what the AC adapter says. I'd assume it's much lower, as the SNES mini was close to 250-300mAh, therefore there's no reason why the FC Twin wouldn't be around the same thing. In that case, of course, your battery life would be much higher, around 6-7 hours, respectively.

depends where this battery is from, if you gutted it and the charger from a portable dvd player battery or something you should be fine but if you just bought the battery and charger separate then get a cheap circuit
gamey had a smart charger only with his li-polys and I dont think you want to be missing hands
