Bacteria - Ipaq 3600 PDA resurrected, improved! *DONE*

Post by bacteria »

Project completed, details of what it is all about, why I did it and how I did it is in the "Handheld Hacking" forum, ...here...

I like the appearance of this PDA!

Improvements vs original Ipaq 3660 PDA:

* 7x its original battery life between charges (continuous, about 10.5 hours on high bright screen).
* Old one was dead, battery died years ago. Recycled it rather than binning it.
* Dual power; will recharge batteries when needed.
* Better direction control.
* A size better for adult hands!
* Built-in USB connection to PC.

I've been watching this for a while. Congrads man, it looks great.

You have any to scale pictures. I'm curious how thick the actual case is now.

Thanks guys, appreciated. I will post more pics on the main thread; and a comparison pic too in the next day or two.

Alternative way to make a case - hope you like it! I think it has a very sleek look.

How is this even done? Those don't even look like buttons. They look like washers put onto the metal case. :S Im confused.

They just show where the tact switches are, they aren't buttons.

HotDog-Cart - they were washers (PC mobo washers), press on them and contact made with tact switches underneath. Problem was they worked but needed a harder press than I wanted, so updated them, pics updated on my thread to show how...

Thanks Helpplease and Life of Brian!

I could possibly have used my printer to put the working on the buttons, but I doubted the ink would set on the spray paint, so used a CD marker pen and did it by hand.

I will put pics of system running on the main thread (HandHeld Hacking forum) later, I need to varnish the button tops and let them dry before I handle them too much.

This is where I have located the PDA, next to my monitor. Nice.

I like "rolly mice" as they don't take much desk space. It takes days (literally) to get used to them, but when you do, they are great.

I have a switcher box so I can use the same monitor and keyboard for the two main computers I have (one for gaming and the other for internet), however for some reason the switch box isn't reliable with one mouse only, so hence I have to use two.

The white mouse I use for internet, cost 80p (about $1.55) at a car boot sale, works great

Yes, Pacman looks nice, pic is a bit washed out though. I made the outser shell of the PDA silver to mimic the Ipaq colour, as you say benol, it matches the monitor and other mouse nicely!
