i know he said that one difficult partof making it portable is changing the opening mechanism, i have no plans on adjusting the speed, etc. Do u think it would me possible/practicle to use the extending tray mechanism in a portable device.
what if i stripped off the gears, etc around the drive and used a ps1 chasis's releasing style ( the lifty thing), do u know how to tell what version it is?

i think the ps2's opening assembly is kinda impractical and could do without it.

actually, the ps2 has 2 switches in the drive. One tells when the drive is shut, and the other tells when it's completly open (I assume to shut off the tray motor)
You can remove the entir tray assembelly, but you'd either need to replace the spindle or keep the magnetic cap to hold the disc in place. Also, you need to keep the switch that tells the ps2 when the try is closed.
ive already taken it all apart (ill try and get some pics for further assistance) and yes you do need the magnetic thing and ive tried it with out the assembly but i didn't try what u said yet.[/quote]
open it in Paint and resize it, just grab a corner and drag it. Then grab the outside white space and bring it to the edge of the smaller picture. Save (not as bitmap, preferably) and repost.

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.
