Running a miniaturized 2600 off ac...

Post by Fangorn81 »

Do I need to do anything different from Ben's general instructions on rewiring the power if I still want to hook it up to the wall, and not use batteries? I already fried one board I had hacked down and got running by leaving out the Transistor...is there anything else I need to do? (besides making sure to put the transistor back in?

Thanks.

you'll have to rewire the color pot (in the instructions) A/V, controls, and switches normally on the unit.

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

I'm pretty sure that's the transistor he mentioned.

Sneak preview of some stuff I discovered while working on my composite video mod:
You don't need to wire the color pot to the battery voltage - it can work from the regulated 5V supply, but will need major adjustment if you do. To do the adjustment, first use a voltmeter to adjust the pot until the output (TIA/Stella pin 10) is at about 4.25 volts, then tweak it until your colors are right. I use the Pitfall cart, and adjust the background between the tree trunks to be a true green, not blueish or yellowish, with maximum contrast vs. Pitfall Harry's shirt. Of course if you have a CBG cart you can use that... ;)

P.S. For those who know electronics, you can replace the color pot with a 50K pot, between a 390K resistor to ground and a 56K resistor to +5V, this will give you 10 times more precise control adjustment.
