Also, is that cable connector part of it, or is that just from a stray keyboard? :P

A stray keyboard, the controller plug cord is yellowish off white. Though it might be coming out of the back of the "Game Star".

I know exactly what it is :)!!!!!!!!!! It's a DYNAPOINT GameStar Programmable Game Controller, with a Classic Nintendo Type Game Controller........basically, it's an intelligent and versatile game console/controller designed for today's popular arcade style PC game. Expands range of game options and take you to a new level of excitement and satisfaction. 6-definable buttons, and 8-directional control. Easy control panel defines each buttons, save & retrieve your game templates just as you would. Easily plugs into AT PC keyboard socket. GameStar comes with a classic Nintendo type game controller.

Applications:
Application: For IBM PC/XT/AT/386/486/586 and compatible.
Content:
GameStar Adapter, Game Controller, User's Guide, GameStar Setup Utility Software.

see, I know all about it :P!!!!!!!!!!!! (actually, Google knows about it :P....here's the link :))
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
