Nes controller-to- Wireless Xbox Controller

Post by jeep »

Hi guys, for the last week, I've been building a gift for one of my friend. My friend have problem with is NES, but he enjoys a lot playing NES game on his Xbox emulator. Anyway, I though it would be cool to have a NES controller for his Xbox. I look around the internet, and I see this: http://www.althack.com/2006/04/10/how-t ... od-part-i/

Anyway, I got my inspiration from him. But I didn't liked the big box idea, I wanted to be able to use the Xbox controller too. So I look inside an Xbox wireless controller (20$ canadian) and like I suppose, their were enough place on the top to put a female db9 connector. Here's the Wireless Xbox Controller with removable NES controller (Yes, I know it looks like a wiimote with a classic controller !). The Xbox controller still work too. I'll put some progress picture and a movie as soon as I get time. Here comes the pics:

Nice job man. I like the DB9 connector idea, now you can build other controllers, like say a Genny or maybe an N64 controller to go with it. Good idea choosing a wireless one too.

This is an extremely nice mod. the DB9 connector is a really good idea, like joevennix said.
Meh, I don't post much.

yea I think you can use anything with simple switching, like say a neo-geo or a genny mabye a saturn? controller, those are extremely simple inside and can be retro fitted for the db-9 easily,

YAY no get to adding a saturn controller, it will make the coolest thing for the 2d fighters for the box, or the neo-geo controller stick...you see where I'm going here right?

I think I'm going to do this. It would be great to be able to play my NES games without it feeling copulate weird.

Glad you guys like the idea. For the more than 8 buttons controller, I suggest using DB15, that way, you can enough button for almost all controller. Anyway, I'll probably make another one for me, with a DB15 and many interchangeable controller. At first, I though using a wireless controller was weird, but it's better that way because of the available space behind.

Here are a couple of pics of the guts:
