you could use 15 AA 1200mA batteries.
3 in series for the 3.6V and put that into 3 parrallels for 3600mA. Then take the other 6 and wire them for 7.2V at 1200mA

That should give you about 2.4 hours - the screens power. Depending on the draw you might want to put more packs of 6 in parrallel to insure that both battery packs die at about the same time.

You could also step up and use some rechargable C batteries like these ones. They are 4500mA a piece.

try using
2100 mAH Nextell rechargeables
and build an adapter

it says that he used 8 rechargeable AA's + a 6v RC car battery....that's a LOT. Is there anyone who knows a way to cut it down more? beasically i want 4 AAs for the tuner and a battery pack for the N64 (anyone know how long those 300mah 7.2v packs last?) i just want to get more than an hour...that's all I need. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you get a 3.3V and 5V dc-dc converter you could increase the efficiency by quite a bit. If you used something like that I'd recomend 2 7.2V 3000mA battery packs. That should give you a little over 4 hours of play time.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a dc-dc converter exactly? Does it convert the two voltages into one? Any links that would show me where to buy one? I'll just use 1 7.2v 3000mah pack for 1:30-2 hours...that's plenty good enough for me since I have 6 7.2v packs I made. Thanks!

the n64 requires 3.3V and 5V. You can use a voltage regulator to get these voltages, but it burns off the extra voltage which is a big waist.
A dc-dc converter will convert the 7.2V into the proper voltage at a pretty high efficiency.
