Useing Batteries to power PS1

Post by Crystatic »

I tried using AA batteries to power a Ps1, (5 batteries, 7.5 volts) but now it wont work. I think I may have had the wrong amperage.

Oddly enough, I see no damage done to the motherboard, it just, quit. anyone know how I can fix it?

Did you reverse the polarity? (Switch negative and positive) Things don't like that.

There is a small surface mount fuse on the motherboard that can be shorted to restore power, but it would be best to replace it so you have the protection it offers. (Anybody remember what its rating is?) Check the PSone sticky.

well i dont think a psone can be powered by AAs which is what you're using if you are getting 7.5v with 5 batteries you need some batteries with higher mAh

Uh...wrong. You can power them off of 5 Alkaline 1.5V batteries, and if they're brand new, you should have atleast like 30 min. of life. I think you reversed the polarity, or there was a short. Use a multimeter if juice is going through the fuse.

Where exactly would this fuse be located? Near the power plug? (yellow thing on circuit board)

Yes. When looking at the board with the controller plugs towards you, the top left of the board has the 2 fuses. It will be obvious if they are blown though, they will be black with burn marks around them; or at least they were for me.

I tried bypassing the tiny fuse directly below the yellow power input jack, but it did not make my PSone functional again.

I saw a sticky that had 4 other fuses to bypass, should I try those as well?
