Can you make a screen and portable run off of the same batte

Post by Guest »

Okay, folks, if you couldn't tell by my cut off title, I need to make a screen and a portable run off of the same batteries, namely an NES on a chip pirate console and a PSOne screen. Anybody know how I should go about such a task? Keep in mind that I know very little about making things portable.

Well you can but if you want to keep it simple (aka my philosophy) just buy a pocket tv, it runs on 4 AA so you'll have the same voltage. Ben himself did this on his NOAC NES portable. If you really want to use the PSOne screen then you need to power the screen first with a 7.2 volt battery and get a step down, if the NOAC cant handle 7.2 volts.

I suppose a pocket tv would work, but I'm trying to get the most screen size. I could barely see what the hell was going on last time I used a 2.5" screen(GBA Tv tuner, had an AV input. Combine with battery using pirate console, and you get barely visible NES built in game goodness.). Do they make pocket tvs that are closer to five inches?

yes, but they normally require 12V.
The ps1 screen requires 7.2V and the noac requires 6V. They both use 5V, but one has a 7805 ldo in it while the other has a normal 7805. If you replace the 7805 in the ps1 screen with a ldo version, they both should work fine using 6V.

Well, I doubt it can be trusted, but the AV adaptor for my pirate console(although I lost it and need a new one) Says it outputs nine volts. If that's true, would it be possible to run them both off of a 7.5 or nine volt battery or something along those lines?

yeah, being a registered member is good. Sets you apart from the animals :D

If you want a bigger screen, use one from the PSONE. The battery could be a 7.2 volt camcorder battery, and AFAIK the NOAC uses a 7805 regulator, and that uses anything from 7.2 to 35 volts.

Roughly how long would such a battery last running both the screen and the portable at once? And just how the hell could I make it so it can be removed and charged and the like?

Well, let's say that you are using a camcorder battery, like I'd recommend. a PSONE screen uses 7.2 volts, and that's what the battery gives. The system uses a 7805 (I believe) which knock down any voltage between 7.2 and 35 volts to the 5 volts needed by the actual system. So all you need to do is wire the + and - points on the screen to the + and - points on the battery (+ to + and - to -, of course) Same thing with the 7805.

As for the charger, get a charger meant for that battery and find out how much it gives the battery. There are a number of ways that you can integrate the charger and battery, like putting the guts from the charger inside and plugging it in to charge it, making a docking station, or taking the battery out to charge it.

I was planning on taking it out to charge it, but I don't know of any way that can be done. I know you could do it with an RC car battery, but I've got no idea how to allow it to be taken out when we're dealing with a camcorder battery. how exactly is that accomplished?
