I tryed a voltage regulator for the 3.3v line and I got it to power on...for about 45 secs, and then it over heated and fried! So I'm pretty much done with regulators for now.
So my idea is that I use some car DC-DC converters from Radio Shack. They are really nice, low heat, and they have an electronic fuse so I can have a DC power in jack without worrying about my brother inserting a reversed polarity plug and frying the N64
I'm thinking I'll use a 5v converter and bypass the 12v in line for the N64 mobo, and also bypass the regulators on the PS one LCD with it. That should save some power. Also I'll use a 3V converter for the 3V line on the N64.
It wont. The chips use 3.3volts. They NEED 3.3v. If you put 3 volts in the gpu and ppu do not functgion properly. The sound sucks and the video is fuzzy So just get a 3.3volts converter
yup, jack's right, the sound will get fuzzy and the video gets a bit distorted . it's not all bad, though, while using only 3v it's still playable, only slightly annoying that the picture+sound aren't perfect.....try finding a different converter that outputs 3.3v rather than 3v .
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
Really? I used a 3v car converter on my second N64P and I never noticed anything wrong with it at all.
I'm pretty sure they don't make 3.3v car converters, so I guess I am back to trying (and frying) voltage regulators (hey that rymes!)
Has anybody actually gotten one to work?
I have had no luck at all with them. They always overheat and go kaput!

Well all a 3v converter means is that its around 3v. Most things like that have a few percent tolerance...
I believe the GBA SP's recharageble Lithium-Ion battery pack is 3.3V(Not 3V, 3.3V, I've seen an SP opened up). Has anyone considered using them once the SP has a substantial price drop within the next couple years, or ordering some from Nintendo?
