New portable project
After finally finishing my PSone, I've decided to start pulling my cube to bits and had a crazy but possibly feasible idea for a new handheld.
Basically what I'm planning is a DS inspired clamshell dual screen system with the top screen being for the cube and a smaller bottom screen with the guts of a GBA in it so I can play link up games like Four Swords and FF:CC as they were intended.
Can't really foresee any major problems with this, but does anyone have any suggestions/ideas/things I should look out for when doing this?

wouldnt an SP be smarter?
Smaller board, battery is recharge and can fit anywhere, Front lit looks better than the GBA, screen is seperate - easier to mover, or am I wrong
Ive never opened either one up, but the SP seems the better choice
but, the GBA would be cheaper , so its a 2 sided deal
Good luck, I really hope this works because It sounds interesting
remeber , take many nice pictures along the way!

I did think that the SP would be easier, but the cost makes it a little prohibitive. I'm gonna check out all the second hand stores around my area, to see if I can get one on the cheap before going with the GBA(if I have to do this then I'll just add a couple of LED's to light the screen.
It won't actually begin until I get my PSone re-cased. I wasn't happy with the hardboard one I made so I was thinking about what I could use today to recase it when I saw a VHS copy of Shaft lying around(one of the larger rental type VHS cases), I've started using the old dremel to cut the holes needed(crap film anyhow, so I've just thrown it in the trash) and should be done within the next couple of days. Photo's of this will definitely be up.

What do people reckon to this as a power supply for the cube?

Woah, 12V... Thats an awsome batter, I may pick up two for my portable systems (keep the 7805 regs in) then that would be a really easy universal battery system. Its a bit big though. maybe we found an interesting for 15min of gameplay for an Xbox. But that website is great, I may make my own portable battery packs from them or something.
Thanks
Thanks
When in Japan with access to just about every system ever made and those that have yet to see international soil, gather your forces, and make the cool ones your own.
If you are willing to make an unavoidably HUGE portable out of the XBox, you might as well buy several of these packs. Won't make much of a difference in size and weight in comparison...and you'd get a few times more life. Maybe these could be better used to power an ITX power supply....makuraken wrote:Woah, 12V... Four of these packs could output 192 volts, making it nice for the 200W Mini ITX power supplies out there. I'd say that assuming 85% efficiency in the converter, you'd get about 160W of power per charge, which might be able to power a computer motherboard and some drives for several hours.
Warranty-Voiding fun!
