Smallest Genesis

Post by Link89 »

I know this is the NES forum area but I guess this is where I'm supposed to put it. I was wondering wht's the smallest Genesis you could use to make a portable. Also is it possible ot cut down the size of the genesis motherboards? I want to make a Genesis portable and get it a small a possible. I'd appreciate it if you have any info this.

The smallest genesis out there is the third version, you can buy it at amazon, note its third party and so chips sets have been changed so the console lacks support for some games an the game genie. I have a version 2 board and it is two layered so you can cut it but I wish you luck on connection every lil lead.

Finally I'm glad you thought to put this topic int he right fourm but it really belongs in the SNES as both are 16 bit (not 8).

Technically the smallest Sega Genesis is the Sega Nomad. Read more here

There are some Genesis-on-a-chip knockoffs, and even a complete one. The new Radica Genesis is a nice one to lok into.

I've seen two (that one you just mentioned and the HK21 or something. Neither seem to have cartrage ports... :(

I don't know if these links will be of any use, but Xinga are selling two different pirate Mega Drive/Genesis consoles.

SEGA MD II (SEGA Genesis) console - NTSC or PAL version ($13.99)
SEGA MD III (SEGA Genesis 3) console - NTSC or PAL version ($14.99)

There was a third that could play VCDs and run ROMs off of CD-Rs, but they sold out a while ago. I've never ordered from them, but I know people who have - they apparently charge a minimum of $20 shipping.

That sega md 3 looks pretty small. I wish that they would come up with some original case designs.

If those controllers are similar to the actual psx controllers in any way, then the md III would be fairly small. I might buy one actually... I'll post again and tell ya if I actually do.

Has anyone actually bought any of these? I know this is months old, but I'm really pleased with my Game Joy, which is probably the same stuff inside as these (except it's a Genesis 3's case)
