Ummmm, YES, we have a spammer! Bambi, stop spamming or we will whack you. The royal arfink has spoken... Oh yes, quote-ing Strong-Bad from Homestar runner does not make spamming acceptable.
Anyway, the connector you want to use is the kind for the 5 1/2 floppy drive. The pitch is about right, and what you want to do is get two of those kind of connectors and put them together end to end. Cut them so that you can do this. There are a few pins in the middle of a connector that are almost never used because they connect to the expansion port. You can make the gap in the connector go there. See Ben Heckendorns little thing on this in his second revision nesp (or nes micro) page. Or, if you want to make this easy, go on ebay and buy a game geneie, remove the connector and use that. I've done it before and it works just fine.

Emulation isn't accurate. There is no substitute for real hardware!

This is the floppy cable used for NES connector replacement. You require two. It is for a vintage Amiga computer, 600 or 1200 series. It can be found here.

I don't like forum signatures.
so do you solder iit to the NES motherboard or does it slip on like a cartridge

Now that I think about it, it probably could slip on like a cartridge. you could solder it, though.
Also, the cable I used (I got it off ebay), looked more like half a NES connector. I compared, and it looked the same.

Wrong!
You need two standard PC floppy cables with the connector on the left:

It's for the old 5 1/4" floppy drives.
It doesn't matter where this connector is on the cable; you just need two of them.
ben has a decent write-up on this type of connector replacement on the <a href="http://benheck.com/Games/Nintendo_proje ... tm">"Super" NES</a> page.
