possible vaccum table alternative

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

make plaster mold, put a sheet of plastic (say, vaccum former plastic?) over the mold, and melt the plastic.

would it work?

Not well at least. That's exactly what you do for vacuum forming (except with vacuum forming you suck the plastic over the mold to get a good cast), without the vacuum portion you wouldn't get a very good cast.

Heat guns don't work well for heating large areas. I used one in addition to my vacuum forming table, just to make sure all the tight corners stretched completely. Grab one anyway if you're making a vacuum forming table.

Just to note, i have ordered a lot of things from allelectronics. Great to deal with, and they always have some badass stuff for cheap.
