Clipboard Case

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Clipboard Case

Post by Mr. Hawkins »

I already mentioned this in the SNES forum, but decided to throw it in here as well. When looking for a strong and thin material this week for my new portable I stumbled across an old clipboard. After cuting and sanding it down I realized that it is a great material for cases. It is very strong and doesn't bend easily. It also is pretty thin (only about 1/8"). Another perk is that they are pretty cheap :D ! However, when cutting or drilling it make sure you provide a backing material(like cheap plywood) and clap it down real good. Otherwise the back of the board will go crazy and flake all over the place.

Anyway, here is what it looks like

I haven't painted it yet, but I think that just sanding it and putting on a few thin coats will look fine.

Cool! Very nice, and creative to boot! Good job.

Does it glue/epoxy well? Are you going to use the conventional bending steel strips method to connect the two sides, or use more clipboard?

Don't know, I used screws to connect the controller to it. I plan on epoxying some magnets to it to connect it to the rest of the case.

The rest of the case is actually a plastic drawer from my work table. I used it because I couldn't find a suitable size food container.

Nothing comes in the correct size and shape for any portable. I just cut down the size of the clipboard so the whole box is like 6.5"Wx10"Lx2"D.

It probably is, as it looks rounded on the edges.
