Need Help w/ Case Construction??? I have AN answer.

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Need Help w/ Case Construction??? I have AN answer.

Post by eastsider_1 »

The answer is simply the small fiberglass insulation in your addic, and lots of liquid super-glue. I used this in a combination w/ plastic epoxy, and laid down the fiberglass right after i spread the epoxy. Let the epoxy dry, then drop some fairly large drops of super glue. You will see vapor rise from the fiberglass, now you dont want to touch it cause the chemal reaction is pretty hot. Now you have the normally cotton like fiberglass, a HARD and SUPER lightweight material that has some flexibility. oh, make sure that the fiberglass is mashed down after you set the epoxy. What do you think??? Any other case construction ideas w/ this??

EDIT: Here's a pic of what i mean and what i used this on.

Sounds like a good idea, just watch out for glass slivers when working with fiberglass.

make sure you have some protection when handling that stuff, good idea, but the bondo guys already thought of it, they sell bondo with fiberglass in it, make sure you have loads of protection when using that stuff
when life gives you lemons make flux

you could also use (shocker!) normal fiberglassresin, and also the fabric-y kind is nice instead of just fiberglas matte

Yes, the fiberglass is probbly the WORST stuff you could ever get under your skin. I have an uncle who fought in NAM, and a helicopter blew up, no kidding, 10 feet away from him. The roters shattered, and guess what they were made of? Fiberglass. He still has to go to the doctor sometimes, because there are still some fiberglass peices in his eyes which occasionally come to the surface. OW. I have made stained glass and gotten slivers of that glass in my hands, but nothing compares to fiberglass for pain and difficulty of removal.

i remember once when i was REAL little.
maybe 6 years olds....

my dad had a boat named "The Trophy"

well i ran my hand up along the rail on one side.

My hand got COVERED in fiber glass.

unlike your uncle i was lucky enough to get it all out.
