Infolithium (L Series specifically) connection details

Post by defor »

I have noticed an abundance of portables using sony infolithium batteries, with what appears to be some sort of molded clip-on base somewhat like a camcorder's... is this fabricated or sold?

The batteries I am using will be the NP-F970's from my old TRV-900, used very lightly before selling the camera (big mistake, but thats another story)

Also, in regards to infolithium, have any original circuits been designed for charging while in use, such that they do not need to be charged on a external charger prior to use?

Thanks, and sorry if this has been answered before, I have having issues with the searching, and my head hurts from dealing with bad sony apa partitioning schemes... Oh well, back to the kernel hacking. :?

First of all, the questions were not answered here because they were all answered in Ben's book, but I'll post them for your benefit.

First, the connections are best made with male molex pins from the standard drive power connector. You can also buy them from RadioShack in their original form. There are some modifications that need to be made to make these work though, mainly dealing with cutting off a few parts (which only really applies to the ones sold at RS, so if you salvage an old power connector, don't worry). You make the connections, fill the entire pins with solder and jam them into the holes. They should be marked on the battery.

Infolithium charging is only SAFELY done with a Sony charger; there is not a known way to charge the batteries without one. You would be wise not to try to make one unless you know how lithium cells work.

That is all.
