CD Drive Replacement

Post by Psy »

Hi, just wondering if anyone new of a way I could use a sliding cd drawer from a pc cdrom with my psone handheld? Any suggestions how to rig the cd reader from the psone into a cd rom slider? Thanks in advance.

I'm in the middle of taking it apart now, and I'm thinking I may be able to take the spindle off the psone drive and attach the readerhead to the internals of the drive, not sure if this would work though?

I've seen a cdrom drive like your talking about, but where the laser was attched to the drive, and when you eject it, the whole laser assembly comes out... I've still got the pic if you wanna see it?

wait... Wouldn't a sliding CD tray take up a lot of internal space and add weight? :?

I repair PCs for my high school, and it looks like the gear mechanisms are fairly complex. If you do use one of these trays, you are a far braver person than I! :D

All you need is the laser assembly and thats it. There is no point in having the motor or the tray.

Really? Does a walkman CD drive have the same connector as the PS1? Are you fibbing again?

If it's not made by Sony, it's not a Walkman, just a portable CD player.
