You might think about using the Game Shark 2 with Media Player. It'll let you play MP3s and other media off a usb mass storage device. It was released in the UK as XPloder V5 (much longer description here).

I don't know if it'll let you use a usb device as a memory card directly, but it will let you tranfer saves to and from one, so. . .
