3.3v regulator

Post by Sparkfist »

Now I hope I'm not the first to rip up the power supply.

I found 3 power regulators, of them does anyone have an idea of what regulator drops the power down to 3.3v or a way to find out what the voltage output is?

Thank you for any help.

Well this is almost suprising.

Anyways I think I might have the regulator, had to trace the leads. Does anyone know what kind of curcuit I can make to test the out put or how I can setup a volt-meter to check the output?

As I have a lot to catch up on, and no school tomarrow I'll look into talking to my dad about making a test circuit to see which of the three is the one I need. I'll tell you what the numbers are or where on the board it is, so if anyone else whats to canablise the power supply they can.

Try a mental image.
There are three power regulators in the power supply for the N64, one is next to a diode and two are towards the back center. I'm looking at one form the back center and hoping that bacause is leads to the 3.3v ouput (if I'm not mistaken) I can use it. I know its a power regulator as they all look like 78xx.

I hate going into uncharted terroitory.

Could you at least do something in paint? You can host it with www.tinypic.com .

you know, just because they look like a 78xx doesn't mean that they are, they could also be triacs or transistors.

You asked for something, I just put in some detail. The things labled 1, 2 and 3 are the power regulators, from the leads at the power output I found that #3 seems to be the one, but as I stupidly desoldered them and mixed 2 and 3 up I have to test both to be sure.

Silver thing is a fuse, the other brown things are the copper coil things (chokes or transformers) and the black and yellow cirlces are capasiters.

yeah thats very true. there are a lot of transistors that look like (or are made in) the TO-220 form factor (the one that 78XXs usually use).

would it hurt testing them? I found it by chance. but ended up using one from a dc power supply board.
