Gratci!

Spambots are soulless, mindless advertising drones that prey on suckers and fools. Like lobbyists, but on the internet and involving less pacts with the devil.

Ha, religion and politics in one. Still, it's best not to respond. It's like a bully. All they want is attention. The moment you give it to them, they've won.

Yes, he made this post because there was just a spam bot yesterday, and someone posted in the topic.

That was me, sorry. Now that I know, it won't happen again.

It's not just you, Busterblade. There are others. :)

For the rest of you, I will say it again.

STOP POSTING IN SPAMBOT THREADS

Seriously. If you feel like yelling at an inanimate object,go outside and yell at a tree. :|

Posting in spambot threads is spamming.

most of these spambots come in and post a new topic right away. not very complex.

what if we made their lives a little more difficult by requiring new users to either:
a: reply to at least one topic before posting a new topic or
b: wait x number of hours after account creation before posting a new topic

probably used in a one-or-the-other fashion.
maybe I'm over-complicating things by bringing it up. I have no idea how hard it would be to impliment, or how complete the tools to do it are. But I doubt new users would really feel left out if the two rules above were in effect and they only had to meet one of them to post a new topic.

there really is more than enough moderation here that spambots aren't a big deal. but if it's incredibly easy to pull off it might be worthwhile.

FYI, they can reply in existing threads, so that wouldn't help.
Another person just replied to a spambot, read this, it applies to you if you respond to spambots.

no offense to Ben or anything... but there is no way he'd install something like that. I once made a mod that would require the user to answer the question (correctly, of course) "What's 2+2?" IIRC, I even sent it to him (if not, gannon did). Unfortunately, Ben never did put it in :(

there seems to be a lot of spambots from this stupid brittney spears website.

are you able to ip ban them or are they using a proxy (you should ip ban atleast the popular proxy sites)?

or maybe start up the request for each member to be activated manually.
