PS2 vs. PSTwo Which is better?
Moderator:Moderators
Hello guys, I am lazy about getting current gen systems and am just getting around to getting a PS2. What I'm wonderng is what version should I get? I prefer the flip-up DVD tray of the PSTwo, which I would assume avoids most disc errors. I would also probably get my system modded eventually (To backup and play my imports) and am not sure which would be easier to mod. Do either of these versions have fatal problems like over heating or inevitable DREs? Thanks for your help.
last time i was into the whole modchip scene (bout 1 year ago..) the slim ps2 cost like 30 more dollars to get modded.
i dont see any reason why youd get more/less disc errors with either type of drive.
i know that the orignal p2s WERE pieces of crap. (ie they broke all the time). i dont know if they actually ever fixed that.

my Ps2 doesnt play some games very well at all it just makes some weird grinding noise
but i figured out how to fix it. you just have to put a piece of tape slightly over the hole of the disc so that it sticks to the "spinny thing" better
i got four free copies of SSX before i realized what was happening but its kinda annoying because it happens with most of my psone games
EDIT:o and the big PS2 right? slim is PStwo

The PS2 (big) requres 12v and 5v, has you using a disc tray (unless you mod), is bigger, and requires more current to run. The PS2 (slim) takes a straight 8.5v, has flip-top, smaller, and runs on about 1amp less then the bigger versions.
Really when it comes down to it, the smaller version is better. Ben went with the smaller one just because it work, the big version just really failed.

Yeah over all, as I've owned a PS2 (big) and having the DVD tray just leaves you with one more thing to go bad. So get something simpler and one that will not be as fragial if you were to bump it around well playing it. Again go with the PS2 slim.

Newer almost always equals better. Theoretically the company producing the product has identified and addressed the flaws in it's original design. This is very true in electronics as the components get smaller and more efficient.

hey i got a ps2 when they came over an i have kept it working
I had one problem where SONY flipped the bill (except for $10 shipping)
The main issue is that you play the PS2 HORIZONTALY!
The PS2 acually has a lens that flips and playing vertical is a strict No-No
Also DVDs are the PS2's worst enemy
since the lens flips between the games and dvds, it will ocassionally get stuck.
That is all I know... if that is any consolation
Good Luck though!!!!!

I agree, the bigger it is the more parts it has, the more parts means more that can go bad. The PSTwo does play the DVDs better too.Sparkfist wrote:Yeah over all, as I've owned a PS2 (big) and having the DVD tray just leaves you with one more thing to go bad.
