I took a look at the phone line and I saw four pins. I realized that USB has four pins, so the idea struck.

And... What's the best way to hide a cable? In plain sight! Sure they will not suspect a computer connected to a wall outlet.

What if they see the USB Cable with Duct tape on it that plugs into a phone jack???

I think the bigger fear is when someone decides to investigate the USB-to-RJ11 cable hanging around .

Have you considered putting a drive into one of those fancy USB hubs ? It'd be a tight fit, but have the benefit of being plausible should someone take a cursory glance at your setup (not to mention being portable).

Which is probably harder than hiding a tiny usb key in the first place. I've seen people turn an old unused socket into a safe. Think of how many usb keys you could have put in there!

Actually, even if they opened it up and saw that, they might not even know what it is so that is one plus at least.

Actually, thats RJ-11. RJ-45 is ethernet cable and that is a phone line I believe (correct me if I'm wrong).
