Project GenCom [resumed]

Post by dragonhead »

oh wow im back after a year or 2 of absence. some of you may remember me. most dont know who the heck i am.

anyway im starting a new project. a handheld genesis, dubbed GenCom

Why "GenCom" you ask?

well that would be because of my donor case.....

a Tiger GAME.COM:

as you can see ive already stripped its guts out.

i plan to graft in the genesis controls G-Force style because i loathe the Tiger controls. its already got provisions for a speaker, batteries, screen adjustments, and headphone plug. the rest i plan to fill in to clean it up a bit. i plan to make this as small and clean as possible. the cart will be flat against the back but fully external.

right now i need a radica, a few carts, and a screen. id love to use a ps1 screen but i just dont have the space for it in the case. i need something between 3 and 4 inches diagonal with a horizontal or screen size circuit board.

its gonna be tough but i think it can be done.

j/w what happened to the gamecom guts? I remember these from way back, with graphics hardly rivaling a graphing calculator.

Mock up pic. about to scale too. case was traced from pic. controls are grafted from 3 button genesis controller. bigger speaker moved to lower right.

Are you willing to part with the gamecom guts?

And I like you idea to use the gamecom case to make your sega genesis portable. And it looks like it'a going to look cool too.

Who knows if the Namco Portable will ever become a reality? :P

I don't know if you posted when I first registered, can't really remember lol.

I love the idea, and case, wouldn't it be more comfortable though if the vertical position of the buttons and D-Pad matched? Also, there are 6-Button Radicas... may as well get one of those now since they are about the same price, games like Comix Zone etc. are loads better with a 6-button controller, same for Streets Of Rage 3.

if they can be modded to work with sonic 3 and S&K then i might. although i never did like the 6 button controllers. the 2 player option would be nice. and as far as control placement ill have to play with it once i get the parts. start throwin ideas at me! i know where im goin with this mostly. but im always open to neat ideas.

Last I had checked, no one on these boards have successfully modded a SFII Radica to work with a cartridge slot.
