Fuses!(?)
Moderator:Moderators
I have been thinking about why so many N64's are dying all the time, and I have come up with an idea.
Some of you may know how the PSone mobo fuse blows for no reason and needs to be jumped to make it work again. Well I think there might be a fuse of some kind that's blowing on the N64.
I am not sure where it is, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me.
I don't have a busted N64 right now so I can't test this theory. Can somebody volunteer to start jumping fuses on their busted N64?
I can help by suggesting what fuses to try, illustrated by a picture.
What are you waiting for? Let's do it to it!

yes I am. There are over 150 smt capacitors on the n64. Also, I looked over the board more closely, and I was originally wrong about saying that there are only fuses on the controller lines. There are also fuses on the chroma and luma video lines.
Fuses on the n64 are specified by the marking "FILx"

Could those fuses be the cause of all these "dead" N64's? Seems like even if they did blow you would still have sound, so I doubt it.gannon wrote:yes I am. And you were right those are capacitors, I looked at them more closely on my N64 and one end is on ground and the other is connected to the voltage in.

the fuses used for the N64 are probably in the power supply, so when you're wiring directly to the board and you fry it, it's fried for good.....if I remember to, later I'll open up an N64 power supply and check it for fuses....if there ARE fuses in there, then perhaps we could just take 'em out and use them on when wiring batteries to the N64 mb....
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
