I'm currently hard at work at a SNESp that I think will make you all proud. I'm using engraving plastic and aluminum much like the projects in Ben's book. In fact, I used the design for his NESp for the front plate. It's coming along nicely and I'll have pics for the "making of" soon.
In the meantime, I'm having difficulty in deciding on a decent name for this beauty of a portable. Care to help me decide or come up with something clever? I'll give you props - honest!
Some names so far that make me laugh:
The Nintendo SuperBoy
SNESOMGLOL
Stupendo! (it kinda sounds like portable, super, and nintendo all mashed together, I guess)
It's black with 4 red NES buttons, has a PSOne screen (well, actually a GameCube screen by Zenith), and tomorrow I'm deciding what batteries I'm going to go with. I did not do a cart slot relocation, but it's looking mighty fine just the same. I predict that the majority of the work will be done in a couple of days (if I have the time to do it), so expect some good stuff real soon!

Whoo! I just finished applying some bondo and black Krylon fusion spray paint today and I gotta say it's shaping up nicely! Pics forthcoming, I promise! I used some perforated board for the speaker covers, and they look WAY professional. Excellent!

I'm kinda torn between "The Nintendo SuperBoy" and "The Nintendo Stupendo!"
Well, painting on the front is done and aluminum sides attached - time to put in some screw posts for the back, glue some nuts in to hold the screen, and start wiring things together!

The pics have been taken... I'm just not at home right now. Tonight after work, I promise! It's a beauty so far.
Edit: Here's some progress pics
Everything epoxied/superglued in
After bondo and sanding
All painted and looking good! Used Krylon Fusion paint and some clear overcoat
Attaching the walls... Ah superglue - the adhesive of champions
She's a beauty!
In case you were wondering, the buttons line up almost exactly to an SNES's controls
Beautiful, eh? For all you 56ker's, were the pics worth the wait?

Looks great! I just hope it's equally comfortable, and that the electronics inside work.
Why did you decide to use all NES controls and such?
And the speakers really do look professional...but I would have (and actually might) put them on a slant so the holes go diagonal. I don't know if the difference is noticable or not though.
Can't wait to see it completed.
