N64 Liuhu Edition

After my GameCube modding I moved to making of fully portable N64. The pic below shows roughly, what I'm up to. I'm plannig to vaccuum form the final case after I get everything working. I have ordered lot's of things from eBay including GameCube controllers for rumble, N64 controller for buttons, expansion pak to be able to play all games and so on.

I have started this new project couple of days ago and progressed quite a bit already. I have opened the console and removed many things I don't need. I also have dremeled (well it really isn't Dremel but still) heat sinks for chips from my old video chip.

I still have one big problem

I have really hard time finding the right batteries for this project. I can't find the ones that many of you are using ja secondly I would need the power plug for Finland. We use EU plugs here. Right now it looks like I'm sadly not going to use batteries in my project. Help me, I really want to make this fully portable!

There are adapters you can find that convert between the two plugs; my Motorola phone charger came with it, for some strange reason. It goes the wrong way (EU to American,) otherwise I'd send it to you.

That'll be a beautiful looking portable. Careful to measure things out and decide how they'll be arranged first, though. It looks like it'd be pretty tight inside that case and it's a real bummer when it doesn't work out.

Of course I firstly build the insides. After that I make the final drawings for the case.

I don't know too much about batteries and chargers so all information and help would be much appreciated. Could somebody make some kind of FAQ for them?

There isn't really that much that you need to know about the batteries. Get something that is at LEAST 3000mAh (4200-5000mAh is pretty awesome) and get a charger that will work for them. You can find all the info you need around here, but don't get overwhelmed by it all. Basically, find some li-ion cells that are > 3000 mAh and a charger to suit them. After that, you can worry about how to wire them (which is easy, but if you are completely new to it can seem a little crazy with all the different diagrams and such).

Wiring and all that isn't any problem. I'm studing third year to be electronic assembler after all. :) I'm just overwhelmed with all the different battery types and so on. The other problem is, where I can get one easily in Finland.

Today I soldered the wires for the dock, because I wanted to relocate it. Above you can see the wires sticking out of the mother board.

Heres a shot with a game in place. The dock will be around there in the final product. I'll sguish the wires so they will take smaller space. Different colored wires did help a lot when soldering them.
