Opinions before I construct the case

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Opinions before I construct the case

Post by Ghost2520 »

This is sorta what I have in mind for my case... I was gonna build the hand made one from the book (NES) but I've heard there are a few problems with it and I can't seem to find the number 4 spacers/screws anywhere. So this is about what I'm thinking, and for what I have in the picture I have all the parts. It doesn't seem like the engraving plastic is sturdy enough for the top layer.... Should I put some plexi under it just to add strength? Thanks.

hmmm... plexi would work fine to reinforce. Just remember when cutting plexi that it is very brittle in nature and will easily crack or splinter when cut or drilled.

What would be the best way to put screw holes into plexi? Its fairly thick, I think its 1/4 inch plexi that I have in the garage.

do you just want holes, or do you want holes that are threaded to accept screws?

Whichever is easiest/safest for the plexi glass.

I would say take a drill and find a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the screw you are using. Drill the holes, then place the screw butt inside the hole. to thread, use a phillips/flat head drill bit piece and SLOWLY drill in the screw, thus threading the hole. this allows the screw to screw into the hole much easier AND have more grip.
For buttons, use a drill bit about 1/2 the size of the button, and carefully carve out the center with an X-acto knife.

Ok thanks, I probably won't be able to find the time to work on it until next week. :(

One last question.... would stacking and glueing together a few layers of plexi work better/be sturdier than using the foam spacers as shown in the picture above?

Ya i know the feeling :( My SNESp has been sitting in my room for 2 weeks! I finished it then, but unfortunately, something is wrong, because I'm only getting screen reception, not SNES. I really haven't had time to try and fix it. I'm gonna turn in, because I'm super tired.
