LCD Power Problems

Post by F »

Hey guys, I just got a new PSOne LCD today. I don't want to screw it up, so I think I'm goin to leave it intact since I'm doing a frankensteining thing. Anyways, I hooked it up to my batteries and played Spyro for a little while, but then it suddenly shut off. After unplugging it a couple of times I finally got it to work again, but it shut off soon again. I then plugged it into the wall with the included adapter and it worked fine for 2 hours. My battery is a 3200 mAh RC battery. Does anybody have any idea of what could be wrong?

does the whole thing shut off, or just the backlight? after it shuts off with the battery see if there's still sound and if there is that means that the backlight has shut off. this has happened to my psone screen before I did the LED mod with it. if the whole thing shut off it may just be the battery is not charged all the way, like JackFrost22 said.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I have no idea

Post by F »

Well, my battery is fully charged and the screen totally shut off, with no sound. I have no idea what's wrong. Could it be because the screen is supposed to use 7.5v and I only give it 7.2v?

Edit: Also, my screen makes a weird squeaking sound right before it shuts off.

That's pretty odd. It's not the backlight, so I'm kinda stumped.

How is your battery connected? It could have become unattached. I don't know though what you describe is pretty wierd, how could a screen make noise? It doesn't have any moving parts!

I meant to see if the speakers still worked after it shut off. but since they don't I guess it's not just the backlight...

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

but if he blew a fuse it wouldn't work at all, from what I think he's saying, it just shuts off after a minute or so...

New theory

Post by F »

I have a new theory. I think that the image could have just been frozen on the screen. I started it up once and it quit really soon while the white sony logo was disappearing. It had a white screen instead of black. And the console still gets power too, because the green light stays on.

Are you sure there is enough amprage torun it, as I have run done the NI-Cd battery that I used to run my PSOne. The system's power light would stay on but it would not load at all. Cheack the charge of the battery, see if its any good.

Batteries

Post by F »

Well, the battery is a fully charged McNair Championship Series 3200 mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery.

Edit: Could it be that I screwed up the soldering on my power cord? It changes the tamiya connector found on all RC batteries to the plug that fits in the back of the PSOne.

No, as long as you got the polarity right that wouldn't matter. And AFAIK if you switched the polarity nothing would work and stuff would start getting messed up. (Electrical wise.)
