I got a dreamcast!

Post by madc0w »

YAY i got at dreamcast at my church's tag sale! i got the system (made in may 2000, memory card with lcd, two origional controllers, two third party controllers, internet browser and six games (virtua soccer, tomb raider, sonic adventure, gauntlet legends, and ttwo others i forget.) for $22. unfortunately its in my moms car and i have soccer, so i cant test it until tonight. i have a couple questions.
1. can i use homebrews and emus on mine? where can i get them?
2. is there anyway to use a PS/2 keyboard/mouse on a dreamcast?
3. Is the built in modem eithernet or dial up?
Thanks!

1. yes. i'm not sure what the best site for those is but here's one
2. i doubt it
3. it's ethernet if it has 8 pins, dial up if it fits a phone cord (4 pins). it's not really built in, it's removable but looks built in

How does the browser work and what is it called in Japan? I've seen a bunch of "dream happy" or something disks out there.

I just picked up a dreamcast last week with 1 controller and a "Samba de Amigo" boxed controller for $20. I don't have any circled numbers on the bottom of mine though, is that because it's Japanese?

I have one, but I left it with a cousin.......IN ENGLAND. He lives in London, somewhere around the South Clapham station, Southern Line I think on the London Underground. :? :)

If it doesnt have a circled number, then look at the manufacture date. The ones made after October 2000 have CD-Rs blocked.

Editted.

Actually, all DC have CD-RW blockage. One's made before October 2000 can only use CDRs.

There is a chance you can use CD-RWs by adjusting the laser lens, but its not 100% so if it doesnt work you'll have to try another Dreamcast.

From experience I'd recommend against tweaking the laser. I've tried it on both my PS2 and DC and had a bad experience both times.

As for the keyboard, if you go to your local Gamestop they probably have one hidden away somewhere. Mine was about $1 close to 9 months ago.
