N64 RGE

Post by Trv »

n64:RGE (Really Good Edition)

Estimated Date of Completion: Summer 2006

Overview: The Simplest N64p ever made minus the case.

Screen: PSone Screen. Will have 90 or 180 degree up and down movement (can someone confirm which it already has)

Controller Set up: A controller will not be built onto the unit in order to perserve the perfection that is the N64 controller. (In my oppinion it is by for the greatest controller). I will have to first run some tests in order to confirm that the screen is perfectly visible from be set on the lap.

Case: Clear plastic molded. WHat type pf places sell the materials needed (Silicon rubber liquid and Epoxy resin) The back of the psone will form the back of the case to simplify things. Th enitre case will be painted black. Finally (this is gonna be sweet), the letters N64 RGE will be pressed into the case and be left clear. Behind the letters/numbers will be led lights that light up when the system is powereed on.

This is just an overview. I still have a long way to go before i could even consider starting.

Ill try and include pics of my idea soon.

Please make suggestions. Also what do you think of the name. Im still deciding on it. Thanks

sounds good :).....the name's pretty cool. have you decided on a final design for it, yet?
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

What's with the funky colors? It will be confusing to hook up this way. I suggest using white and red for audio (if you are making it a mini-jack, it should be green), yellow for video out and gray or blue for the mic jack.

Epoxy resin is very, very expensive, especially in the amounts you'd need to make a case. You might be thinking of polyester resin, which is often used for casting. The only problem is all of the clear casting resins I've seen shrink quite a bit. If the case is going to be black, why not just mold it in a solid color?

I was planning on putting leds in the case, thus the need to be clear. But ill take your word for it that polyester resin would fit me needs better. Also, where could I buy the polyester resin.

Thanks

You can get like semi-transparent stuff. It comes with dyes that you mix in, to get the right color. Then use superbright LEDs behind that.

And have a 5 minute battery life?

With the PSone screen, you should solder it so the hinge is in the same position as it would be on a PSone, then it will go from all the way down to all the way flat the other way.
