Reccomended controller for portable?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

hey, im looking to make a portable, and i noticed that my standard nintendo 64 controller is all surface mount-connections for the buttons. is there a controller that you could recommend for size of internals and ease of re-wiring?

well there is the super pad 64 plus it is kinda small but it works
