Noob making Snesp...

Post by Antwarrior »

Hey everyone,

I have been intrested in making a portable snes for about a year now, and I think I've finally decided to do it. I am very much a noob in this respect so any help/info I can get is appreciated.

I wanted to get a general idea of how much anyone who's made one has spent on each item they used to build theirs.

I already own a 'interact' brand PSone screen and I was wondering if this will suffice?

thanks!

As of now...I think that I've spent about 100-120 on everything...but now I have to buy another psone screen. I still have to build a Vac table and need a few other things...so I guessing about...200.

1) SNES mini: $30-40
2) PSOne LCD: $40-$60
3) Batteries: $5-$100 (depends on how you decide to go, non-rechargeable AAs don't cost much, but it'll cost more in the long run)
4) LEDs to modify your PSOne screen: $5-$20 (for eBay, depends on the quantity, quality, qu... uhh... shipping)
5) Controller: $3-$15 (again depends allot on what and where you get what)
6) Case: $5-$30 (for a good inexpensive home-made or project box case)

Total: $88-265

So, allot depends on where you get what, what you get, and then you may have to add a bit more if you fry something. My portable is nearing completion (just need to put everything in my case that I'm working on), total I've spent about $110 for it.

Thanks! I was thinking it was more in the $300 or $400 range. Now I am making one for sure.

On the back of the screen it has "DC 7.5v IN" on it, does that help?

Sounds like it has a 7805, so you can use it.

I spent about 100 on mine(excluding tools, with tools about another 15-20)

mini SNES was - $40
5" PS1 screen - $20
Battery - $30(came with charger)
LEDs for mod - $6
Case - free(my dad got the stuff from work)
Switch - $3(for 5)
Controller - came with SNES

so yeah wow just under 100, was actually more becuase I messed up 2 controllers(but again came with another SNES I bought long ago) and bought some wrong LEDs. Also the batter was more, but only because I got 2(I only used one in the SNESp). I'm lucky though since I was doing this for a school project my parents paid for everything.
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

Oh, a little advice..DON'T DO THE LED MOD. Its not worth it, just spit up the extra $10 for some better batteries

Uneven lighting, much darker screen, etc. IMO I don't think the mod is worth it, it makes the screen look like crap.

It's too dark for most people's tastes, and the lighting is a little uneven, but I still modded mine (and yeah, it's a little dark and uneven, but the power consumption was probably worth it.)

if its not bright enough you could jump that CV23 thing on the back of the PS1 screen. Its in the book at the end of the PS1 screen section
