Xbox 360 Power Brick extension Cord

Post by Schumi »

Hi there, just stumbled across these forums, as i don't know where else to turn, i have a Xbox slim and i would like to extend the power cord between the 360 and the Power brick, but upon cutting back the sheathing there seemed to be about 8 wires in there, i was just wondering is it as simple as cutting each wire individually and then soldering in a extension piece??

Thanks for your time

Umm no there are only 3 live neutral and ground. I just took mine apart last month. Double check and take pictures so we can help you more.

You are wrong. He said the connection between the 360 and the brick, not the brick and the wall.

But yes, you should be able to just extend each wire individually. Make sure you use thick enough wire, at least as thick as what was in the cable before! You want to make sure you are not putting too much power through too thin a wire.

My apologies for misunderstanding the question. I haven't worked on that cord yet, thanks for the advice. Sorry about giving you the wrong advice Schumi!

Thank you very much, i just wanted to check that i was able to do it that way. Will get the same thickness of wire when i go back to work, just bought a cheap 2nd power brick just in case it goes wrong. Lol

No problem, no harm done.

Thanks once again to both of you.

Just a quick update after cutting back the Sheathing there was 7 wires in the cable, all i done was cut one at a time, and soldered an extension piece in the same thickness as the cable that was already in there, works like a charm.

Thanks once again.

Voltage will just drop if it is low amps.
If the amps are high, then the wire will 'melt'.

I think that is how it works?
