n64 ram upgrage question

I have modded an xbox and admit that I'm no expert on it, I heard you can solder and connect another ram chip onto the xbox mother board witch makes it have 128mg of ram, correct me if I'm wrong, but where I'm getting at is could you double up the 4mg ram upgrades in the Nintendo 64 system to boost it's performance, or will it just ruin the n64?

Really the only way is to buy an expansion pak and put that in the system. The expansion pak is much like the ram in the N64 by default, just pull it out and replace the new one easy as that.

As for soldering Ben's N64p did have the card from the ram pak soldered to th board but he did this to reduce the hight.

There was a similar post that I read, and most games are made to think that their is only 4MB or 8MB (with expansion) of RAM. This might be wrong, but it could be true. Don't forget that an XBOX is much more like a computer.

yeah i posted about this a little while back. the easiest way to boost the ram for games is to use the expansion pack, as games that use the expansion pack are only going to recognize that much. the reason i wanted to add even more ram in addition to the expansion pack was that the gameshark code generator needs the extra ram to operate, and i wanted to use the code generator with games that use the expansion pack.

the only way i see it might be possible to upgrade the ram, and i doubt this would work, is to buy three expansion packs. remove the ram chips from two and replace the two 2mb chips on board with the 4mb chips you removed from the expansion pack. then use the third expansion pack. i don't think this would work however and i don't have the cash to test it out

You could try, though the surface mount stuff would be very hard to get off.

i have been curious for a while about this, so after i read this thread i said "what the heck i'm gonna try it" , i soldered the chips from 2 expansion packs replacing the 2 origional chips on the mobo. it dosent work, the unit powers on but no video. don't say it's a soldering problem because i've worked with SMD's before... too bad, i hoped it would work

Cool. Try to put in the original expansion Pak along with a game just to make sure that it still works.

nope, i've tryed everything. i was very disapointed

. i'm gona rebuild one of the expansion packs tommorow so i can play perfect dark again.
