ADDED VIDEO! PS3 Batarang/boomerang controller mod

Post by HotDog-Cart »

Hey guys! I finally finished this beast!

EDIT: HERES MY VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq1CnY-n-Pg
THE AUDIO IS NOT SYNCED DUE TO YOUTUBE, BUT YOU CAN STILL SEE ME USING THE CONTROLLER AND THE RESULTS HAPPENING ON SCREEN!

What I basically did was take a cheap PS2 boomerang-ish shaped controller, and take its guts out and modify a REAL official Six Axis Controller and put it inside the shell. I also expanded the shell 15%.

I got the controller painted black, so it would be a batman inspired "Batarang Controller".

Please excuse my picture quality. My 5mp camera thinks brand new batteries, are dead. Also, excuse my bondo job. It was my first time.

*drum roll*

You can see the white PS button. I didnt put any image there due to copyright reasons.

I got featured on hackaday!

Nice!
How is it to hold? Silver paint would have matched the concept.

And I'll clean up the bondo sometime.

I have submitted this to engadget and hackaday. :)

I'd appreciate if someone could use photoshop and brighten these pictures slightly. So the Dpad is easier to see.

I don't understand why you left it wired. Is it USB or have you just not gotten to that part yet? That's really cool though I really wanted the boomerang controller when I saw it. Think you could post a how-to?

The USB cable should be able to be detached and used as wireless. You can't get wired PS3 controllers.

Amazing work! I really like it. You should ignore batman theme and paint it silver ;) It would be even better than now. Anyway it's neat and perfect-looking. I hope you would make detachable cable like in original SixAxis/DS3.

Well, if any of you read my thread I CANNOT make it wireless. I have PERMANANTLY attached the USB to the input on the controller, as the Ps3's battery would NOT fit inside the controller due to too little space. So there is no battery. I dont mind though, as the cords USB and its the size of like a skipping rope.

I dont know if I'll post a how to, as I'm somewhat planning on revising this (making it better bondo'd) and selling them....maybe.
