Wording and designs

Post by woox »

I was looking throuhg bens guides and case designs and I am wondering how he did the following in RED and BLUE:

Image

I am guessing the RED box, the words, were used decals? I never used decals so can someone please tell me how these actually work? are they stickers? or are they like a plastic tattoo?

Also what about the blue? I am clueless on what he used there

I'm thinking the blue area is laser etched. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

You could paint the cover of the case blue, go over it in black and then attempt to etch it by hand with an x-acto.

No, get really thin masking tape and lay it out to cover the entire thing. (Don't overlap the tape.) Take off every other piece of tape, then spray paint it. Remove the tape while the paint's still tacky.

Could you print out a giant decal and put it over it?

Can anyone explain how ben did red section and how decals work?

I was originally thinking masking tape, but I wasn't sure how thin he could get it. If he was looking for pin striping thinner than 1/16th" then it could get difficult.

But yeah, masking tape is probably the go to thing for painting, just be careful putting it down and you can pretty much do anything you want.

Actually, pen striping for a car would probably work better than tape. You can get pretty narrow pin striping.

The lettering is either silk-screened or a decal. Decal is a fancy word for sticker (typically made from printed vinyl), but it implies that the application process is more involved. Most people get by with transparent computer "paper" (plastic) stickers.

is decal like text seen on the keys of a keyboard? or say the power logo design? its not like a pealable sticker is it? Does it work on fine print such as say size 8 font?

No, it's not like typical keyboard lettering. It's not a removable sticker. It's a really REALLY adhesive sticker. You print on it whatever you want.
