Portable Sales

Post by gannon »

I'm in the process of setting up an online store on my site right now, and I wanted to know some of your opinions on it.
I'm mainly thinking of selling portables there, but I think I might even sell batteries, battery chargers, and even tools to build portables eventually. I was going to offer presale prices for some of my portables to show the buyers intent, and then subtract that price from their total fee for a unit.

I'm also not sure if I should include batteries with the units or not. I was thinking of even making different types of battery packs for each portable so people could choose between nicd, nimh, li-ion, or li-poly.

That would be great!!!, but still plan it, because it is a risk.

You might do it like Ben did, put a preorder list, so that you don't lose.

What I was eventually planning on doing is setting up a thing where you choose the system, battery type, screen typer/size, and case design. Then you could sell like 5 or ten for each system. Kind of setup like most computer sites. Or you could just sell them ebay.

I was thinking of doing something like that, mainly with battery type and color, but I'm not very good at doing cgi scripts.
I had a hard enough time adding a drop box to select the amount you want.
Here's a quick picture of what I've got done so far.

hmm.... well it seems that scea doesn't directly distribute any of their products so I have to contact one of these companies instead. I really wish they gave me a website to go to since I really hate doing this kind of stuff over the phone.

Anyways, this means I'm one step closer to wholesale psone lcds.

Gannon,

Wholesale LCD's of any kind would be great! But most of us have had good experiences with PSone (type) LCD's - that will be nice if you can pull that off.

I'm glad someone is moving forward on trying to create some sort of business with this stuff. I think that selling parts and tools is a great idea and selling completed portables is along with the other is just icing on the cake.

Thanks for doing all the leg-work; it is appreciated.

yeah, if I can get the noac units cheap enough I'll bundle them with the 60-72 pin converter and an lcd, maybe even a case.
Kinda like a build your own portable kit.

I love this idea :D I'm sure nearly all of us have thought of something like this to make money off portables. I think wholesale LCDs will make portables mutch cheeper to make. Anyways if you want to have a franchise I can run one Australia.

I've called 5 out of the 13 distributors and I've only gotten 2 to talk to me. The first one kept on trying to get me to buy intec lcds, and the second one didn't even know that there was such a thing as a playstation lcd. Both said they'd call me back with more info though.
Does anybody know of any intec lcds that compare with the psone lcds?

The first intec gamecube screens were really good tft's, but then they made heavy lcd ones like interact. I have the newer one and it's a piece of junk. I'm not sure if their other screens are good either.

I'd stay firm and tell them you do not want an Intec LCD, unless you could get them for a dollar each. Then it would be worth it (don't have much experience with them, but the sony ones are amazing)

yeah, but since the sony ones are rare it would be nice to know which other ones are nice.
I still have 8 numbers to call, and I'll try back with the other ones that wouldn't talk to me later.

I've had pixels die on on me with those screens.
