End the Tightness

Post by Great Hierophant »

If you have a Famiclone or a Famicom like me and use it for NES games, you may be annoyed at how difficult it is to remove the converter from the Famicom's slot. This is because Famicom cartridges were manufactured with the non-standardard thickness of ".042 and the slot is extra tight to accomodate them. Normal two-layer PCBs are .065" in thickness. This is why the Game Genie refused to work with the NES top loader. But a thick PCB will put unnecessary stress on the cartridge port, affecting its functionality. The Family Converter, as seen on Lik Sang and on Gannon's site is popular but suffers from this problem, you practically have to jam it in there. Is there a solution i.e. a converter that uses a Famicom-friendly PCB thickness.

My solution was to take a screw driver and bend the pins on my family converter back slightly. Works great :)
