Great Hierophant

The Pocket Famicom

Post by Great Hierophant »

NESworld today has informed me of the Pocket Famicom. Lik Sang is selling them for $80. It is made by Gametech, the same company that also makes the Neo-Fami. It looks like a very decent unit. Like the GameAxe (and unlike the Game Theory Admiral) it will fit Famicom cartridges without difficulty. (At least Nintendo designed ones, I can't say for Konami, Sunsoft, Irem, Taito, Jaleco, Namco or Bandai cartridges that use custom cartridge shells) It has a 2.5" LCD backlit screen and A/V outputs and a second controller jack (pirate NES controllers) for hooking up to a TV. Headphone or mono speaker (NES is mono.) It also uses the A/C adapter from the NeoFami, sold separately. Roughly three hours of battery life, but I'm not sure what type of batteries are used. I see some serious competition here. Only a handheld built from true Nintendo hardware can compete.

He never said it was a Nintendo made portable. Read what he wrote again, and this time don't skim it. And its spelled HOAX.

He meant read the whole POST. he said that Nintendo would have to come out with a portable to COMPETE with this, not that it was a Nintendo-made portable.

Well sorry. Besides why are you guys really thinking Nintedo will release there own Handheld Famicom/NES, they make more money just porting the games to the new systems like the GBA/SP. And lets avoid the whole Nindedo whatif things and just admitt that they're more intersted in scaring pirate than moving into the terrory and making some money.

He doesn't even say anything of the sort. He's saying it's high quality, and only Nintendo could make something better. And no one is thinking Nintendo is GOING to make one.
$80 is actually really cheap for one of these. The cheapest they go for in Japan is about $120.

Quite right. Its up to us to come up with something better, and preferably in 72 pins.

Yep! We're likely one of the few groups in the States that does this sort of thing....I'm suprised that the Japanese groups don't eye us for a cross-section of the market interests or technology data. O_o

Would this be worth my $100 dollars?

I mean for the system, family converter, and some rechargeable AA's.

Its a legit system allright. I want to know who Great Hierophant is. If he translated that page himself he is good.
Only thing I noticed about the page (that I did not notice being mentioned) is the fact that it does NOT come with any game cart or any games built in. A bit of a bummer but non-the-less a cool system.
Also, three hours on three alkaline dry cell batteries. Sweet. Going to be tough for us to make it better... I want a NOAC now...
When in Japan with access to just about every system ever made and those that have yet to see international soil, gather your forces, and make the cool ones your own.

Not coming with a cart makes it 100% legal...
