Hey, the rules don't say it has to be lightweight. If you could show a video of you playing it while holding it up with your hands only....
I have no intention of mine being light-weight or even handheld, but it will fill the requirements of the thread (assuming I can get it done)
Does it have to be hand-held? Because I could not play that thing and hold it up at the same time
there's no rule in the first post saying it does have to be handheld, so it should be fair game.

I suggest we only keep that thread for nothing else than descriptions, pics and videos of completed projects in the compo - nothing else, and only one posting per entry too. If someone has something to add to their project description or vids, etc, they can edit it in to their posting if they need to. This will keep the posting in that thread to the bare bones and entirely relevant.

Good idea??
No point as of now. If this thread becomes to cluttered, I'll make a new one. No worries until then.

Does the controller have to be hard-wired on the portable?

Indeed, so yes, must have a built-in controller.

i'm pretty sure that they will need to work. after all, this isn't a "mock up a portable" contest. that's why it says in the rules that it needs all the components of a portable, including the batteries.

Well the rules say it has to have a screen, like the rules say it has to have a built in controller. Well, if you could have a built in controller that doesn't work, then you could have a built in screen that doesn't work. Same with the batteries. So, if you could do that, you could have all non-functional components and have basically a mock up of a portable. Soooo, I don't think that would count either.

How about a keyboard? If he is making a laptop, then a keyboard would be a natural thing to have, not a controller.

I think in that case, an external controller would be fine. I think that if anyone has any questions about the rules or plans on doing something in the gray area, they should post here and see if it is okay.
