There wasnt so much space except for the edges around the screen. It seemed like the Gameboy case had JUST enough room for the hip-gear screen, the NOAC, and the original gameboy control board + the small NOAC control chip (which I cut out).bazz wrote:All4Sky I have another question, when you finished was there any spare room at all for Anything else? doesn't have to be a lot, as long as there's any space. thanks.
All4Sky beat me to the punch, but i too completed one! im the bquach/bubblebz from ladyada.net
project "BEEBOY GAMEJOY" is [COMPLETE].

everything went pretty smooth until here

who knew that soldering on traces would be so hard???
i wanted to imitate all the controls from the hip gear so i re-did the control adjust board.

we got volume, color, brightness, and contrast control. the blue dip switch above lets me select the input going into the LCD, i made it so that i can hookup an external source that will display to the LCD or the megajoy, although doesn't help that it won't accept external sound from the external source like dvd player or something. but still very cool option.

the slider switch on the side is the power and the red momentary button is the reset.
overall i believe this was a very expensive project for b/c... i had to buy a few megajoys.. this project only went through 3 megajoys to get it working.. and wasted 2 gameboys.. my original one.. and another one i had to buy.. let alone i had to bust out all my old EE stuff and learn to solder.
oh well.. it was a very fun project and i learned a tremendous deal.. hey i learned how to solder through this project , so it was worth the money and time. if i were to do this again, i would.. b/c i can always improve what i created. but.. now im done and lazy.
this concludes my first portable project. for those that still need help, post the pictures and i'll tell you where to solder. there's no way i want to open this thing back up. time to move on!!! anyway.. thanks ladyada!
and good luck to those who are still on the project!

I am working on the same project my self. Just got the Famicom desoldered and wires hooked to it yesterday. Still waiting on my screen to arrive. Anyone have any tips/hints for supplying DC through an adaptor and wiring for Speaker and headphones ? This is my first attempt at this (before I go hacking up my consoles) I have been restoring old Arcade machines up until finding this site and an arcticle on Ben in Retro Gamer.
Later.
Later.
It can be rebuilt.

i've heard gamegears have nice amps on a separate little pcbAll4Sky wrote:Can someone point me to a simple audio amp circuit I can use to power the original gameboy speaker?

never got the speaker to work, but i got the headphone jack in the nintendo to work quite nicely.
and the black glob, the +5v at 6oclock is the bottom one.

you pretty much can trace it yourself, but if u want my notes:
on the gameboy controller part all the way from the left hand side are all the traces that go to the controller.
starting from L to R should be 14 trace lines:
1-left
2-gnd
3-down
4-right
5-up
6,7,8-gnd
9-select
10-start
11-b
12-a
13,14-not used
