Re: N64 memory card non-volatile mod
i know that it would cost a quite summed up amount but he said theyre about 30 and cost him about 20 per chip unless he got them in bulk offer. also i have the games i would send them like you read from this thread and pay whatever it costs

I know all this GBC stuff is a bit off topic but I thought I should show this link. The second one down would straight in to any cart with 256k. This is just a quick look, I'm sure there are heaps of alternatives.

Re: N64 memory card non-volatile mod
there's still the problem that stuntpenguin ran into about the voltages. I was thinking about how you said it made no sense when the system runs off of 3.3v so why would 5.5v be getting applied in the game cart to the ram chip? It's possibly to do with the fact that the original gameboy ran off 6v and those game cart's work fine in any gameboycolour. so they might have just kept that standard voltage, even when they decreased the voltage needed to run the handheld possibly
buying 100 chips wouldn't save you much, your likely to go from $20 a chip, to $15 a chip at the most ..once stuntpenguin figures out the voltage thing, and then if it works correctly He would have first dibs at the job your suggesting because he suggested the gameboy thing first. Kibbles disappeared from the forums as far as I know, but I guest he'd have first first dibs at your job if he turns up. if neither of them want to do it then I will, not sure if I'd want to do 100 games though.. maybe like 10 or 20 at the moste3c wrote:i know that it would cost a quite summed up amount but he said theyre about 30 and cost him about 20 per chip unless he got them in bulk offer. also i have the games i would send them like you read from this thread and pay whatever it costs

Re: N64 memory card non-volatile mod
FM28V020 has the same footprint as the sram in my pokemon gold cartridge. They run about $15 a chip depending on where you buy it from. I'm going to rig up 2 AA batteries to see if I can get it to work or not. I'll post back when I get a chance. Of course the final solution won't use batteries at all though.
edit: It works! It was easier than I thought. All I had to do was disconnect the V+ on the FRAM. This means all the voltage is supplied through the data lines, which may or may not be stable. I'll do some gamesave testing and post a video later.

I just checked, and mouser sells the chips for about $9
@e3c - if you wanted to buy in bulk from mouser you get get 100 chips for $771. That's kind of a lot to spend on modding, but hey... it's your money
. You should also be aware that not all games use the same size SRAM. Or at least pokemon pinball doesn't.
@lucidPerspective - I don't think I really want to do a mod service unless there's a high demand for it (15+ cartridges or so). I'll probably differ the modding service to you unless I get that kind of demand. It's fair game for anybody to sell this mod, as I didn't create the non-volatile FRAM chip used. So, If you decide to do it, I won't stop you.
btw we totally hijacked this thread from Kibble

I'm keen to buy one too - Kibble you genius!
Very VERY nice mod.
I would like to see this done with a Gameboy Color game Cartridge however
Keep it up man!

..read the thread lol.. me and stuntPenguin threadjacked, and were discussing this. It has been done with GBC games.. ..albeit not the 4 memory bank switch, but it'd work just the same as kibbles ideaHaunted360 wrote:I would like to see this done with a Gameboy Color game Cartridge however
