It also smells like paint thinner and nasty pickles. I was going to have a snack, but I don't think so anymore

Re: how to make ABS cement
All mine has done has slightly softened some of the plastic, and leached some of the red color out of the red pieces (thus dyeing the white pieces delightful shades of candy pink!)

Bleck.

Not after fully dry though, right? It shouldn't still smell. Also, you're doing it wrong.ouTou should have eaten the pickles for snack, not rub them on your plastic.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Re: how to make ABS cement
Ha ha! No, the pickles were all gone. I rinsed out the jar. Just when I open the jar to try and mix things around, it STINKS. My plastic is still only slightly soft. I'm wondering if there is leftover pickle substance that has neutralized something in the paint thinner. Or maybe I found the one kind of paint thinner that does not contain acetone
Re: how to make ABS cement
the pickle substance is most likely vinegar. Unsure about it's effects.

Re: how to make ABS cement

Re: how to make ABS cement
the other junk in paint thinner is probably causing undesirable results. use pure acetone.

Re: how to make ABS cement
I guess I don't have the right kind of thinner or something. It is only soft-ish plastic now. I'll have to get some pure acetone at some point.
