no, this wasn't the ultimate bump. about half a year ago, some idiot bumped a for sale thread from one one of the oldest pages in the trading post. That was the ultimate bump.

Sorry to bump a really old topic but...
with electric rains pinout of the N64 3rd party controllers, Vcc, gnd, x, y I noticed that that was the same as a psp joystick pinout:
so would the psp joystick then work (on a 3rd party controller)?
with/without extra resistors?

I don't know how bacteria knows that for sure. Nice observation though, if you feel like trying it out, please do. I'm not sure if anyone else has up to now.
I would try it out but some part of my 3rd party controller is busted, not sure if it's the potentiometers on the joystick or the board, basically I can only get it to work with two wires (out of 4) connected and then all that happens is that when i push joystick up, goldeneye goes left.
In short terms I dont wont to spend hours fiddling to find out that my controller is busted

Ok, tried the PSP slim joystick on a third party N64 joystick -the SuperPad.
Joystick works fine, although you connect V to H and H to V; otherwise either the horizontal axis is opposite or the vertical is - V to H and H to V solves this.
PSP joystick works fine, as far as the connections are concerned - works. Only issue though is that the PSP joystick doesn't seem to center reliably, so your character for example can be running up, you release, and he ends up doing a slow forward step. The other issue is that the PSP joystick only seems to want to move at one speed - on the N64 joystick, the amount you move the stick denotes the speed the character reacts - so moving left for example a bit makes the character move in a quick walk, but all the way to the left and the character runs. (I tested on Donkey Kong 64, as this is ideal for such testings).
So, the four contacts work (no surprise there) but clearly the PSP sticks are not the best ones to have!
BTW - found out the hard way I(ie opened them up) that the "Competition Pro" controller and also the "Wild Things" controller are no use for this mod - they use the same joystick as in the N64 official controllers.
