I read through the entire thing  This is amazing

I love it! :D

Got one question? Does this use the original N64 crappy joystick? Or does it use a normal modern easy to find joystick?

How much will these cost when you sell them and get rich?

It uses the original controller chip, however, I'm going to modify the control stick with something experimental, more to the likes of a PSP stick without actually using a PSP stick, since it wouldn't be compatible with the controller chip. It would, in theory, be possible to substitute the controller chip with a third party controller chip but, that would require having to cut out the glob top and solder solder a wire to each individual trace coming out of the chip to the pads for the original controller on the board. You would then be able to use any control stick that uses pots.

LOL, I don't know, it's still a matter of getting it to work first.

Well... I got some bad news.... first attempt at making the board failed. I used a negative acting photosensive board, which I've never used before, I always use positive ones, because I figured I'd give it a shot and see what was different about it. First of all, you can't see the resist on the board because it's transparent and second, the developer fluid made me nauseous... I still feel dizzy and like I'm about to puke, which REALLY sucks cause I have to go to work here soon. Too much resist came off in some areas and not enough in others.

It really sucks that this didn't work because it took me a freaking long time to align the transparencies and tape them together, all four of them, enough that the holes for the vias would be right on top of each other. I have to use 2 transparencies for the top and bottom as one usually isn't dark enough. Now I gotta go and print out four more but this time they have to be positives.... :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

I won't be able to get another board until sometime this weekend and this time I'll get the positives that I'm used to. Here's some pics of my failed attempt for your viewing pleasure.

Why didn't you use a positive etching scheme?
Oh well, regardless it looks nice. It may not work, but learning from your mistakes is what this forum is all about. :D
Oh, and that stuff is nasty. I usually use it with a doctor's disposable face mask. The key is getting out of the room as soon as you possibly can. Hope you feel better. :(
Making stuff with my new beautiful CNC machine!
Would you like a professional looking custom case for your portable? I may be able to help you. Check out this link:

LOL sorry, I saw the opportunity to quote dragonhead again.

Anywho, I felt like crap the whole time I was at work pretty much but, it's kinda worn off now.

I think I'll stick with positive etching, it's not nearly as bad as this stuff was. I'm hoping to maybe go to the store tomorrow and buy another blank board and give it another shot. Not only am I more comfortable with the positive stuff, it's cheaper too, I don't know what I was thinking. In the meantime, I'm gonna get the transparencies ready and all aligned. Man, that reminds me, I'm out of ferric chloride too...

that pic is messed up.
A truly wise man can entertain a thought without accepting it. A fool cannot withhold past judgments but instead closes his mine to new possibilities. Someone who wants to innovate simply needs to forget what everyone says isn't possible.

If you've got a tiny bit left, try this:

Second time's the charm!!! Out of all the tiny traces only one has a minor hole in it that I'll have to touch up before etching. Everything else came out really well!
