I found a great site for plastic recentley. Here it is. The prices are great and it sells everything I can think of, it even sells plastic hinges and plastic screws.
I haven't decided whether to buy high impact polystyrene sheets or pvc sheets yet though. They sell polystyrene sheets as thin as 1/50th of an inch thick, but I think I'll use 1/16th inch thick sheets.

Well, it is a real one, it just happens to be a lot more compact. It even has the same size forming area as a normal one.

Sounds to me that those were either chip bits or you were doing something wrong.
I'll have to give further time to looking at whether or not I want one, cause with a drill press I should have no trouble drilling the holes in the sheet.

And whom ever finishes and tests theirs first, please tell me how it works.

Yeah, a drill press makes it much easier to make the holes. It makes me wish that I had a working one when I was making my vacuum form. Also, as soon as I save up $40 I'll be ordering the clay and plastic to make mine so that isn't to far away hopefully.

I have all of the wood and parts together now I just need to make it. It will be horazontal like this one http://members.aol.com/KMyersEFO/vacuum.htm

It won't have the plastic frame hinged because it won't spread the plastic evenly. I will be doing somthing different to it to make it portable and even smaller. I won't tell you what i'm doing yet. I'll show you when I'm finshed. I'll make a guide and put it on my website when I'm finshed.

Does anyone think that 1/25" high-impact polystyrene is to thin to be stable enough for a formed case? I just want to know how thin I can make the case itself. I might go for 1/16" instead.

I think i'm going to use 1/16 high-impact polystyrene or ABS. I think that 1/25 might be to flimsy. What size is 1/16? Is it .60 .80 or somthing else?
