Re: How many games actually need it?
Games to add: Any racing game that uses L/R for throttle. It acts more like a petal.

Oh and, Smooth, the word you are looking for is "potentiometer".
Unless you only play a handful of games, the potentiometers in the L and R buttons are a must.
Games that need it:
Metroid Prime 1&2
Zelda (all of them)
Smash bros melee
Resident evil (all the gamecube ones need it)
Beyond good and evil
mario sunshine
you get the idea
Actually I just tested these out and:
-Metroid Prime 1&2 DO NOT need it. The R button makes you stand in one spot and aim. The R trigger also makes you stand in one spot and aim but the little circle thing used for aiming is slightly different. The L Trigger has no effect. Does not affect gameplay
-The Legend of Zelda(any) DO NOT need it. The triggers perform the same functions as the buttons. Does not affect gameplay
-Super Smash Bros. Melee Use it. Pushing one of the triggers(not buttons) activates a "Light Shield" around your character. This shield lasts longer and is bigger than the standard shield, but is easier for opponents to break. i personally never use it. The action is too fast to affect gameplay
-I do not own Resident Evil or Beyond Good and Evil so therefore I cannot test whether these games use this functionality
-Mario Sunshine absolutely does use it. The R trigger is used to shoot water while running. This is used on many occasions which makes it a very important feature
Also, many racing games use the triggers as throttle and brake

Actually on Zelda you need to move the trigger up again before you can press the tact again.
Let's just say my portable has got loads of win!!! *hint *hint
Transformice is so addictive!

You mean you must release the trigger before you can push the trigger or the button/tact again?
If you are making a portable without the triggers then i don't think it'll matter

you do need it for Metroid prime 1&2. I tried the game without the potentiometers and it was very problematic due to aiming issues and having trouble scanning things. Unless the canadian version of metroid prime plays differently (which i seriously doubt).
